Climate
Year-round extremely hot temperatures and plenty of rainfall the city is undeniably tropical. The average temperature is 23°c but it is also in the range of 21°c to 27°c, higher and lower temperatures are also occasional. In Summer the afternoon temperature can sometimes reach into the 30°c range, while the mercury never drops below 18°c in Winter. Its a year round warm destination. The highest it has ever got is more than 43°c and the lowest is 4°c. The warmest months are from late November to March which is an average of 21°c. Summer in Rio De Janeiro can be enjoyed from all year round but winter is a comparatively short season.
Summer Summer starts around November and lasts to March. This time of year, daily averages between 29°C, but go into the 30°s and even towards 40°C parts of the afternoon. Even at night, temperatures remain in the 20°s. February is the hottest month of the year, with afternoon temperature up to 30°C and nighttime lows of no lower than 24°C. The sea temperature averaging between 23°C and 26°C.
Summer is the wettest season of them all, with more than 100mm per month. December is the wettest month of the year with a total rainfall amount of 169mm. Because of its tropical location, you may expect some kind of precipitation when vacationing in Brazil in summer, there are between 11 and 14 days with rainfall per month this time of year. Winter Rio's winter climate is between June and September, and this is the time to visit if you don't do well so good with extreme heat. It's still warm at this time of the year, with average highs of around 24°C and nights at 18°C, but the humidity is lower and visitors feel more comfortable. There's less rain in these months too, with only around 6 wet days a month.
Winter is a good time to go sightseeing in Rio de Janeiro, especially if you want to visit Sugarloaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer, as there is much less fog now than during the rest of the year. |
Spring & Autumn
Rio's short seasons which brings a mixed bag of weather conditions. Both Autumn which goes April and May and Spring October and November are warm and wet, and hotels tend to be cheaper during these seasons. There are still some major events to enjoy, such as the Rio Boat Show in April and the film festival in October, but overall the city is quieter than in either winter or summer.
If you're visiting Rio in the spring or autumn, bring warm weather clothing but perhaps a shawl or coverup, or something with long sleeves, in case there are sudden temperature changes.
