SummerHobart’s summer months are in December, January and February. They are warm rather than hot, with average daily temperatures of around 22°C. Sometimes the temperature does rise, but you would not expect the heat you would find on the mainland Australia in the summer. However, the sun is very strong due to Hobart’s proximity to Antarctica, so sunscreen is essential. Bring something with long sleeves for the summer evenings, as it can still be rather cool at night. Winter Hobart’s winters are cool and wet. The rain there can be heavy and days can be overcast but when the sun breaks through, the air is crisp, clear. Expect average daily temperature of about 12°C, falling to 3 or 4°C overnight. Snow rarely falls in the city itself. Mount Wellington often has a snow cap. On consistently rainy days, you have every excuse to explore the city’s many museums and galleries, and other indoor attractions.

AutumnMarch, April and May are autumn months in Hobart, and is beautiful because the countryside is changing colour. Daytime temperatures average around 18-20°C for much of the autumn but the May temperatures will have fallen to 14°C with overnight lows of 4°C. Autumn in Hobart can be wet, so bring a jacket and an umbrella. Spring Hobart’s spring months are September, October and November. The weather is quite windy and cold in spring, but it can be gloriously sunny. This is the time when the botanical gardens are most beautiful, and the gardens and parks around Hobart start to come to life.
Expect average daily highs of between 15 and 18°C, with overnight lows around 7-9°C. Bring a raincoat and some layered clothing so that you can stay comfortable as the temperature adjusts. Review of climate From the information and maps I have provided they show that Tasmania being situated in the Southern Hemisphere allows the temperature to remain cool. |
